some girl's blog

Thursday, September 11, 2008

So for a while I've been thinking about making a proper website, as opposed to doodling around on blogger. But first I'd need a domain name. So I've been looking for info on cheap web hosting -- what do you think?

more about my move

You know what I need when I have my own kitchen? Some new Tupperware!

sellingcrossing.com

And for the aspiring sales rep: sellingcrossing.com.

more about my job search

Next up: HRCrossing.com. This is a site aimed specifically at job seekers in the Human Resources industry, for human resource directors, assistants and executives. It's got an easily searchable interface and a good deal to choose from, depending on your area. You can sign up for email updates or track jobs you've applied for. If I were interested in human resources, I would definitely check it out.

I like reading about gadgets and gizmos

so. jobsearch.

I've been looking around for a new position, and tried all the usual job sites. The most recent: employmentcrossing.com.

road bikes

It's the middle of the summer, and I was thinking about taking a bike trip (part of why I need that GPS -- woohoo!) and then I realized I don't have a bike. Man. As road bikes are getting fancier and fancier, I'm not sure I even know where to start. Well, mountain bikes are more off-road, while road bikes are...on-road? There's racing bikes, touring bikes, and utility bikes. Touring bikes are more for heavy loads, and utility bikes are for day-to-day errands. Or so says wikipedia.

jewelry, design, and Lia Sophia

In addition to my new scrapbooking enthusiasm, I've started to dabble in jewelry design, and paying much more attention to the art of it, and what makes a good piece of jewelry a good piece of jewelry. What I've found is that a lot of "low end" stuff is visually interesting, and a lot of "high end" stuff is tasteful but -- quite frankly -- boring. Which is why I'm so impressed with Lia Sophia -- it's high-end but great to look at.

in my spare time, I think about superheroes

In the new Iron Man movie, Tony Stark tells Jarvis to "throw a little hot rod red" onto the new suit. Cars are a big part of his character, and what he drives matches his sleek, shiny image, both attitude-wise and color-wise. With Batman, it almost goes without saying. He's got a friggin batmobile, it matches him colorfully and stylistically.

I didn't see the new Hulk movie, but I somehow doubt Bruce Banner comes with any sweet wheels. The problem with Hulk is, he just reminds me of a John Deere.

So, "global positioning systems"

I need a GPS. Seriously. I'm so good at getting lost, I consider it a talent. Now I find myself looking at Lowrance items, and I never realized there were so many variations on these magical direction-finding machines. Waterproof GPS for the outdoorsman! Hunting-specific graphics for the hunter guy! Mp3 player! Broadband! Marine GPS devices that will tell a fisherman where the fish are!

Creative memories

You probably don't know this, but I'm a scrapbooking junkie. I love how pictures are put together, and the colored paper and tiny embellishments and creative layouts. A websearch brought me to Creative Memories, which does traditional scrapbooking as well as digital scrapbooking. For the digital albums, there's digital paper. For items on the cheap, check this out.

so guess who got a shout-out in the web-only section of the Village Voice

Me. And I would like to say, Mr. Maldoro, I would never compare you to the likes of Bill O' Reilly. And my expertise isn't in geography, it's in -- actually, no, I don't have an expertise, or any useful knowledge whatsoever.

But I really do like Johnny Maldoro. I read (well, browsed) his old column, and while I'm pretty sure that I'm worse off for it, the guy is a talented writer. I noticed when he was ditched from the "hot spot" (now "people"); I figured the decision was made so he could be replaced with more attractive, popular lesbians. I did say I was glad to see him back [scroll down to see my boring little comment] and was ignored.

Lesson: if you want to get a mention, use a dirty word.

(That doesn't apply here, by the way. I'll respond to any actual human who leaves a comment, because I expect the only comments I will get will be, "Hi, interesting blog! You should visit my [SPAM] on my [SPAM] about [SPAM]!")
